June 6, 2026 | Marquette, Michigan

Shamita and Paul’s story began in the fall of 2022, when they met on Hinge. Their first date was at the Crow’s Nest at The Landmark in Marquette, and a few years later, they celebrated their wedding day.

On June 6, 2026, the couple exchanged vows at St. Paul Episcopal Church before celebrating with family and friends at The Northern Center on the Northern Michigan University campus.

The couple described their wedding as “Indianish" - a traditional Christian wedding with meaningful touches of Indian culture woven throughout the day. Photos captured by Emmoon Creative

A Wedding That Honored Her Culture

As an Indian adoptee, incorporating elements of Indian culture into her wedding was especially meaningful to Shamita.

“I am an Indian adoptee so I really wanted to have some cultural aspects in my wedding of where I came from,” she shared. “I love how everything turned out.”

Those elements were woven throughout the day, starting with what the couple wore.

Shamita wore a traditional sari, while her bridesmaids wore peachy-pink lehengas. Paul wore a traditional sherwani with a kurta underneath, and his groomsmen wore kurtas in red and burnt umber tones.

Shamita and her bridesmaids also had wedding henna done on their hands, adding another meaningful touch to the celebration.

The reception carried the theme through with a color palette of dusty peach, burnt umber, and gold. Indian-style lanterns in gold, red, and yellow decorated the tables, adding warmth and color to the space.

A Little Bit of Rain & a Funny Mix-Up

The morning started out rainy, but thankfully the weather cleared up in time for photos.

There was also a small wedding-day mix-up when a couple of friends accidentally ended up at another wedding happening near the church. Luckily, they figured it out and made it to Shamita and Paul’s ceremony just in time for the sermon.

Music, Food & A Tango

Music was another special part of the day. Shamita’s brothers played live music during the ceremony, adding a personal touch to the couple’s wedding.

Shamita walked down the aisle to Heirlooms by Pale White Moon, while Paul and the bridal party walked to Ordinary by Alex Warren.

For their first dance, the couple chose something a little different, a tango to Kelaayo by A. R. Rahman, an Indian tango song.

The reception featured Indian food catered by NMU, along with Indian desserts. The wedding party also enjoyed cake from Huron Mountain Bakery.

Soak It All In

Looking back on the day, Shamita’s advice to other couples is simple:

“The day goes by like a blink of an eye so soak in every moment. Take a breath and enjoy the day :)”

For Shamita and Paul, their wedding was a chance to bring together their faith, their relationship, their families, and meaningful pieces of Shamita’s heritage.

And after meeting in Marquette for their very first date, it feels fitting that the city was also where they celebrated this next chapter together. Congratulations to Paul & Shamita!
